Bergen is also conveniently situated for visits, for example, to Alkmaar famous for its cheese market or Amsterdam, both within easy reach by public transport. Den Helder and its surrounding area are also worth a visit Highlights in Bergen are festivals such as 'Illumination Night' in August and the 'Jazz and Sail' weekend in September. There are many other events worth visiting during the summer including the weekly artistic evening markets and several concerts, not least the Holland Music Sessions.
